Nellim - Northern Lights over Lake Inari

We had a great time and the added bonus was seeing the Northern Lights!
The lodge is homely and welcoming - not posh so please don't expect that but it provides everything you will need for an outdoor activity holiday. and lots of warm wholesome food. The variety and quality of the activities is great and the staff were ever present and helpful. 10 of our group were delayed on their flight from London due to bad snow storms in Helsinki and they spent the first night in Helsinki but the staff made up for it when they arrived almost one day late and made sure they experienced as much of the activities they had missed out on from the lost time.
The husky safari is an incredible experience and one not to be missed. Take lots of thermals & the gel hand and foot warmers make it a very comfortable experience - without them it would have been very cold fingers and toes moments!
The light ssurprised us by appearing at 6pm on January 21st 2012. So the moral of our story is to be ready as they also appeared at 5am on Monday January 22nd. We understood that they usually appear between 11pm and 1am so be ready at all times. The light activity is immense this year but there is a lot of cloud in Nellim and unless the clouds move away or there is wind to blow them away which there wasn't during our trip you cannot see the lights.
This is an amazing trip and even without seeing the lights we had a wonderful time.
