The towering peaks of the Julian Alps provide a stunning backdrop for a fabulous range of adventure sports based on and around the fast flowing River Soca. This is the active way to explore Slovenia's alpine pastures, canyons and rivers and, at the same time, meet some of the friendliest people we have encountered on our travels. This part of the Soca Valley is one of Europe's best guarded secrets and has avoided the crowds that flock to some activity sports areas during the summer months.

The scenery in this area is extremely impressive and recently some scenes from the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian were filmed in the local area.

We have featured holidays in Slovenia for several years but this is our best base yet! The town of Bovec has a number of friendly restaurants, bars and shops and due to its proximity to the Soca River has now earned a reputation as one of Slovenia’s premier adventure sports centres.

Suitable for

Anybody aged 18 years or over.

Modern Family Owned Bovec Hotel

A new hotel for 2012 was the main reason for changing the base for this itinerary. This family owned hotel on the outskirts of Bovec has a heated outdoor swimming pool and terrace area to relax. The views of the surrounding mountain areas are fantastic and the owners are extremely friendly.

The rooms have all modern facilities and the hotel has double, triple and a limited number of family rooms. On the fifth floor the hotel also has a wonderful spa with relaxation room, jacuzzi and sauna; massages are also available (bookable and payable locally). The jacuzzi in the spa area has the most amazing view over the nearby mountains and is the ideal place to relax after an active day.

There is lots of outdoor space around this hotel which is commonly used as a football pitch between the hotel guests and the children from the local area.

Saturday: Flights, Arrivals and Transfers

You will be met on arrival at Ljubljana Airport to complete the 2 hour drive to the town of Bovec. Depending on your time of arrival you can either relax in the outdoor swimming pool or hotel spa or explore the town before a welcome meal is served.

Sunday: Climbing and Abseiling

Today you take advantage of Bovec’s proximity to Italy by crossing over the border to make use of a fantastic new outdoor climbing wall area. With full safety equipment and instruction you will spend the day developing your skills and confidence on the climbing wall. This activity is set in a beautiful area which is a great place to relax for the remainder of the day.

Monday: White Water Rafting

Today you will head towards the wonderful Soca River.  Depending on the group size you will use either mini rafts with 2 – 3 people in each raft or some of the larger rafts with up to 8 people per raft. This is a fantastic river for rafting with a wonderful range of white water stretches designed to get your adrenaline pumping and some calmer stretches which allow you to enjoy the wonderful views.

Tuesday: Canyoning

This is probably the most popular activity and the reason many activity enthusiasts visit this wonderful region. The impressive Susec Canyon is the best canyon in the Soca Valley (in our opinion!) and today this is where you will be exploring the canyon. With numerous slides and jumps as well as two spectacular 15m waterfalls it's an exhilarating combination of fun and excitement in a stunning natural setting. After the canyoning is finished you will go to the beautiful Nadeesha River near the town of Kobarid to enjoy a delicious BBQ and perhaps a swim in the river or a game of volleyhall on the court nearby.

Wednesday: Free Day

Today we have left free and you can either enjoy the outdoor swimming pool and proximity to the town to relax or head out on some additional activities (bookable and payable locally). One of the best features of this new hotel is its spa facilities.

Thursday: Tubing and Mini Rafting

Tubing is a great activity, especially in this beautiful part of the world. You will sit in a large inflatable tube and float downstream using your paddle to steer whilst you marvel at the beautiful scenery. After lunch you will continue along the river by mini rafting with two or three people in each raft as you work together to negotiate the Soca River.

Friday: Hydrospeeding

If we were to compare the journey downstream in a raft to a ride in a Rolls Royce, then Hydrospeeding is like a race in a Formula 1 car. You will use a large foam board and flippers (fins) to swim down through the rapids. You can’t get closer to the rapids than this and this favourite activity offers a real adrenaline rush for the last day!

This evening a farewell meal will be served in the hotel restaurant before your return flights home tomorrow.

Saturday: Return flights and Goodbyes

This morning you will drive back to Ljubljana Airport for your return flights home.

Getting there

NB: Flights are not included in this holiday.

We are more than happy to source flights for you and provide you with ATOL cover under our licence number 6865.

The area of The Soca Valley is a superb example of local people working together to ensure that the local environment, which is the lifeblood of their economy, is protected against the influx of mass tourism. The River Soca is so clean that you can simply drink from its clear waters without fear.

In Slovenia we actively encourage the development of the training of local guides who receive their diplomas from the University of Ljubljana. Our presence allows these guides to develop their international language skills through constant interaction with our groups.

Alistair Mclean - Activities Abroad
Our Opinion

"I've been to the Soca Valley more than twenty times, it draws me back time after time. The biggest problem here is concentrating on the activities. I find myself gazing in awe at the towering peaks of the majestic Julian Alps oblivious to the guide's plaintiff pleas of "Paddle, paddle!!". Funnily enough, any raft I'm in invariably pays several unscheduled stops on the riverbank rather than plowing the preferred course straight down river. Which gives me more time to gaze. Clever huh?" Our Customers' Feedback

"Day 1 Finally made it through security at Stansted airport having waited for the passenger in front to try and explain that 15 types of perfume really were necessities! Met up with the group and our amazing bus driver Joseph who skilfully negotiated hair raising mountain bends and perilous precipices whilst enlightening us to Slovenia’s entire history since 1800s  to land us safely – I am very relieved to say - (thanks – Joseph!!) at our hotel which sported fabulous alpine views. We met downstairs for and epic meal ,to meet  our lovely guide  Thomas, and sample some super Slovenian wine which slipped down a treat at 2 Euros a litre – Hmm – may regret this tomorrow – especially as Thomas explained he is ex-SAS – what are we in for!! Day 2 I realised this morning that the bus drive yesterday was scant preparation for the journey to our hiking spot – narrow roads with spectacular drops! It was worth it though f" Matthew Murphy - Sep 10
